Moving closer to Opening The Doors!

We are moving ever closer to realizing our goal of building a new facility for our Central Saanich Club.  The by-law on rezoning the property has now been passed and adopted.  We have finalized the site location which will be at the west end of the parking lot of the Cultural Centre.  The next steps are complete the building design, sign the lease agreement with the District of Central Saanch and apply for a building permit.  As I have learned that these things always take a little longer than we anticipate (or would wish!) I hesitate to say when the ceremonial sod turning will take place but we are hopeful it will be early in the new year.

Our campaign to raise money for this facility and support operations of Central Saanich and our other Community Clubs in Esquimalt, Langford and VicWest is just getting underway.  We have already made some progress and will be reporting more fully on that in the next issue.  I do want to express at this time, however, our great appreciation to the District of Central Saanich Council and staff for their steadfast commitment to seeing this project through.  They have all been absolutely wonderful!

I would also like to thank Barry Cosgrave at Number Ten Architectural Group for all his help in the early stages of building design and planning.  Of course, I have to make special mention of Mark and Danielle Marley.  Mark and Danielle are helping us with the actual building project and have been hard at work securing in-kind gifts from contractors and suppliers.  A big success from these early days has been to have all of the building permit and development fees funded by the District of Central Saanich.

Alastair Bryson, Mayor of the District of Central Saanich, and his Council have been extremely supportive in moving this project forward.  It is very clear to us that they highly value the contribution that Boys & Girls Clubs make in the community.  Our work with the children and youth in the District has greatly increased in the past three years and we are proud of the partnerships we have established with schools and Panorama Recreation.

We also have a donation of $50,000 from Mike & Leah O’Brien through CIBC Wood Gundy and expect to announce another $50,000 gift early in the new year.  These are a huge boost to our fundraising efforts!
